Isolation Test for Copper (ADSL/VDSL)
| Isolation Test?
The isolation test is a diagnostic process to help identify internet connection issues by isolating your connections. This helps us determine if any issues are related to our network or equipment within your setup.
| Steps for the Isolation Test
1. Unplug all devices connected to the phone line – phones, fax machines, alarms, splitters, etc.
2. Plug the modem directly into the main phone wall socket (no splitter or filter if possible).
3. Connect your computer directly to the modem using an Ethernet cable (no Wi-Fi).
4. Restart the modem and test the internet speed again.
| Connection Types
Type-1. Dedicated jack-point (using an RJ45 connector on the wall)
Type-2. Old style BT jack-point (using BT connector)
| DSL Line Status on Modem Router
- Log in to your modem router’s web interface and check the DSL line status information.
- Advanced Tab > Status > DSL
>> SNR Margin: The SNR margin should be at least 10 dB. Anything above 15 dB is considered very stable.
>> Line Attenuation: The line attenuation should ideally be below 20 dB. Values above 40 dB indicate poor line quality.
- After checking, please send the details—such as Line Status, SNR Margin (dB), and Line Attenuation (dB)—to our WorldNet Team.
